Richard Greco, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Financial Management and Comptroller

Richard Greco, Jr. was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as The Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller) on September 10, 2004 and was confirmed by the Senate one month later. In his capacity Secretary Greco is the chief financial officer of the Department of the Navy and is responsible for directing and managing the Department's financial activities, including the preparation, justification, and execution of a $126 billion budget; all financial policy, comptroller, accounting, audit, treasury, fiscal, legal, reporting, and Congressional relations functions; and recruiting, training, and leading a financial management workforce of 9,000 people. He also serves on the Department's many governance boards, including the executive steering group of the United States Naval Academy and the Acquisition Integrity Board. For exceptionally distinguished service, the Secretary of the Navy bestowed on Mr. Greco the Distinguished Public Service Award, the Department of the Navy's highest civilian honor.

Mr. David M. Wennergren serves as the Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer (DON CIO), providing top-level advocacy in the development and use of information management/information technology (IM/IT) and creation of a unified IM/IT vision for the Navy - Marine Corps team. He develops strategies, policies, plans, architectures, standards, and guidance, and provides process transformation support for the entire Department of the Navy. Additionally, he ensures that the development and acquisition of IT systems are interoperable and consistent with the Department's vision. Mr. Wennergren is the Department's eGovernment and Knowledge Management champion, serves as the IM/IT workforce leader, addresses emerging technologies and issues, ensures the availability, integrity and protection of the Department's information systems, and serves as the Department's Critical Infrastructure Assurance Officer (CIAO). In addition to his duties as CIO, Mr. Wennergren is the Vice Chair of the Federal CIO Council. He also serves as the Chair of the Department of Defense Identity Protection and Management Senior Coordinating Group, which provides senior oversight and coordination of biometric, smart card, and PKI initiatives across the entire Department of Defense.

Navy's Wennergren named CIO Council vice chairman

"Dave Wennergren today was elected vice chairman of the CIO Council.

Wennergren, the Navy Department's CIO, replaces Dan Matthews, the former Transportation CIO who returned to the private sector in December.

The CIO Council elected Wennergren today at their monthly meeting.

Wennergren previously was co-chairman of the CIO Council's Best Practices Committee, has been Navy CIO since 2002 and has been with the department for 25 years. "

DRC wins Navy financial systems work

Dynamics Research Corp. won a $4.4 million contract with the Naval Surface Warfare Center to provide functional and technical support for the software suite and systems that compose the Naval Sea Systems Command corporate financial systems, according to company officials. The contract has one base year and two option years.

Navy gives new office IT budget authority

The Navy has established a new office to manage spending for enterprisewide information technology systems both afloat and ashore. Such systems account for $2 billion of the Navy's $6 billion IT expenses each year.
