Financial Management Conference Scheduled

The Joint Financial Management Improvement Program–a joint program of the Treasury, GAO, OMB and OPM–will hold its annual Federal Financial Management Conference on May 8 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

“This one-day conference provides a forum for those in the federal financial management community to learn about current issues, exchange knowledge, and share experiences in improving financial management operations and policies,” according to the announcement.

Also, the organization is soliciting nominations through March 7 for the annual Donald L. Scantlebury Memorial Award, which recognizes “senior financial management executives who, through outstanding and continuous leadership in financial management, have been principally responsible for significant economies, efficiencies and improvements in the government.”

Conference Set on Federal Financial Management

The Federal Financial Management Conference, which will feature the latest issues and trends in financial management, accountability, performance and auditing, is set for March 12.

Gene L. Dodaro, CGFM, Acting Comptroller General of the United States, will present the keynote address. The conference theme is "Financial Management in Transition." Highlights include sessions on auditing, accounting, human capital and accountability; a panel discussion of the Government Accountability Office's oversight role over the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP); presentations by Neil Barofsky, Special Inspector General for TARP, Kenneth Carfine, Fiscal Assistant Secretary, Department of the Treasury, and James Horney, Director, Federal Fiscal Policy, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

2007 AGA CFO Survey

Grant Thornton, in partnership with the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), has released the annual federal chief financial officer (CFO) survey to coincide with the AGA annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) which takes place next week in Nashville, TN.

Grant Thornton and AGA have sponsored the annual CFO survey since 1996. The 2007 CFO survey 'Scoring Financial Management & Oversight Efforts' highlights the balance and tension between meeting compliance requirements and making strategic decisions.

The 2007 survey, along with surveys from prior years, is posted on Grant Thornton's Global Public Sector Publications webpage and is available for download.
